Job Description
***We are seeking 8 Watershed Representative for various office locations- Murphy, NC; Knoxville, TN; Gray, TN, Paris, TN; Muscle Shoals, AL; and Guntersville, AL***
Required Education:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in environmental science, aquatic ecology, limnology, natural resource management, or closely related field, or equivalent experience
Required experience:
• Experience or demonstrated knowledge of ecological and water quality concepts and theories
• Experience or demonstrated knowledge of land use and water quality assessment and management principles and practices
• Experience applying scientific principles to work functions and conducting accurate information recovery and data analysis
• Experience using a PC for data analysis, word processing, and spreadsheet development
• Experience with project management principles, organizing work, and communicating effectively both orally and in writing
• Experience or demonstrated ability to assist with processing Section 26a approvals, conducting associated field work, and completing NEPA/environmental reviews
• Experience or demonstrated ability to evaluate shoreline management requests and support watershed improvement, natural resource conservation, and cultural protection goals
Preferred experience:
• Experience with watershed operations and Resource Stewardship process areas
• Experience developing, reviewing, and updating long-range watershed-based strategies
• Experience establishing partnerships with individuals, groups, and agencies to address water quality and land use issues
• Experience supporting public meetings, coalition building, water quality improvement initiatives, shoreline improvement projects, resource management, and recreational projects
• Experience with permitting operations and progressively handling more complex projects
Job Overview:
Training position with developmental assignments made to familiarize the incumbent with a broad range of watershed operations teams functions. With increasing experience, the incumbent’s duties will expand to encompass greater responsibility in the Resource Stewardship process areas.
Job Responsibilities:
• Assist in developing, reviewing, and updating long-range watershed-based strategies for protecting and improving the quality of water resources
• Assist in establishing partnerships with a diverse array of individuals, groups, and agencies to solve water quality and land use issues
• Assist with public meetings and coalition building
• Assist with land use requests and review and assist with processing applications for Section 26a approvals in accordance with established procedures and guidelines
• Assist in water quality improvement implementation initiatives and provide technical support to watershed coalitions
• Evaluate shoreline management requests seeking alignment with watershed improvement and cultural protection goals
• Support implementation of shoreline improvement projects, resource management and recreational projects as outlined in performance plans
• Basic understanding of ecological & water quality concepts & theories; basic knowledge of land use & water quality assessment & management principles & practices; apply scientific principles to work functions; basic knowledge of project management principles; conduct accurate information recovery & data analysis; use PC for data analysis, word processing, & spreadsheet development; organize work well; oral & written communications
• Process applications for Section 26a approvals
• Perform field work associated with each application
• Complete NEPA/environmental review for each project
• With increasing experience, duties will expand to encompass more complex projects in the permitting program
• Evaluate shoreline management requests seeking alignment with watershed improvement, conservation and protection of natural resources, and cultural protection goals
• Support implementation of shoreline improvement projects through resource management and recreational projects - **Only those lawfully authorized to work in the designated country associated with the position will be considered.**
