Job Description
Required Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, OR

• Advanced Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program

• OR Professional Engineer (PE) certification with five (5) years of engineering experience.



Required License/Certification

• Completion of the state Engineer-In-Training (EIT) requirement.



Required Qualifications/Skills/Experience

• 1.5 years of increasingly challenging engineering experience.

• Knowledge of power system studies and electrical distribution systems.

• Experience evaluating electrical engineering problems and developing technically sound recommendations.

• Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

• Good interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to communicate complex electrical concepts effectively to customers and project stakeholders.



Preferred Skills

• Experience evaluating high SAIDI/CAIDI circuits to identify reliability improvement opportunities.

• Experience developing distribution service reliability improvement projects.

• Experience preparing and presenting project proposals to reliability teams.

• Experience with engineering project scoping, cost estimates, budgeting, scheduling, permitting, design, procurement, or startup.

• Knowledge of state and federal codes, industry standards, and utility specifications.

• Experience developing engineering standards, specifications, or procedures.



Role Overview

The Engineer II will support engineering projects within electric utility operations, with a focus on power distribution and service reliability.

The role evaluates engineering problems, performs technical studies, and develops designs, recommendations, and reliability improvement projects.

The Engineer II will analyze high SAIDI/CAIDI circuits and support projects that improve distribution system reliability.

The role works with engineers, technical specialists, contractors, consultants, and internal teams to support project objectives.

The position also requires presenting technical recommendations and communicating complex electrical concepts to stakeholders.



Duties

• Provide technical expertise to project teams for evaluating and resolving engineering problems and design issues.

• Evaluate job requests to determine purpose, scope, requirements, and alternative approaches.

• Evaluate high SAIDI/CAIDI circuits and identify opportunities for distribution reliability improvements.

• Gather data, perform engineering calculations, and prepare engineering designs and technical recommendations.

• Develop and support projects designed to improve electric distribution service reliability.

• Prepare and present project proposals to the reliability team.

• Review Company, city, state, and regulatory codes and applicable industry standards.

• Support project scoping, consultant and contractor selection, cost estimates, budgeting, permitting, design, material procurement, and startup.

• Manage and coordinate activities required to complete tasks and small projects.

• Provide direction to contractors, consultants, engineers, technical specialists, and project team members.

• Maintain project budgets and schedules and provide timely project status reports.

• Develop Company standards, specifications, and procedures for materials, components, and systems.

• Interpret state and federal codes, industry standards, and Company specifications.

• Provide technical input regarding proposed regulatory changes affecting codes and standards.

• Recommend modifications to Company policies and procedures based on regulatory changes.

• Follow up on implementation of recommendations and assess accuracy and completeness.

• Stay current with industry changes, trends, and technological advancements.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
