Job Description
Required Education
• Minimum: 2-year Associate degree in a Computer Aided Drafting program
• Experience: 2+ years of relevant experience (internships are acceptable as experience)
• Alternative: 4+ years of equivalent experience in lieu of the degree
Technical Skills:
• Prior mechanical drafting experience (preferably for equipment-based mechanical components)
• Experience with 3D parametric drafting/modeling software (PTC Creo preferred; SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor accepted)
• Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 standards
• Experience with PLM software for storing CAD files, creating engineering notices, and maintaining Bills of Material
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, OneNote, Excel, etc.)
Soft Skills:
• Ability to work within a team environment
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Good organizational and time management practices
• Creativity, analytical, and problem-solving ability
• Detail-oriented
Responsible to prepare 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using Creo 3D software, assist engineers in troubleshooting designs and drawings, and maintain engineering release and change documentation.
Job Responsibilities:
• Create and/or modify 3D models and engineering drawings in conformance to Caterpillar engineering standards and specifications for use in manufacturing
• Ensure engineering change documentation conforms to Caterpillar engineering standards and specifications
• Assist engineers in troubleshooting designs
• Interface with engineers and peers as necessary to ensure all facets of project's scope are met
• Complete projects in a timely manner to meet customer due dates
• Communicate with Team lead daily on project status, delays, and issues encountered
Work Environment:
• Fast-paced, supportive teamwork environment that promotes peer collaboration
• On-site full time in Rapid City, SD
• Schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday
• Duration: 24 months
