· An LL.B / J.D., LL.M, LL.D or Ph.D in a law-related field. Valid Bar licensure.

Must Have Hard Skills:
· Familiarity with AI Tools (Claude code, etc.)
· Extensive (10+ years) experience in one or more of: Teaching Law at a post-secondary institution, working at a Law firm, acting as in-house counsel / agency advisor / prosecutor / public defender / transactional specialist / litigator, etc.
· Experience teaching or mentoring advanced legal concepts (e.g., advanced Law School curriculum, corporate training or mentoring), demonstrating an advanced ability to unpack and relay complex problems as logical, step-by-step thinking.
· An extensive understanding and expertise one or more recognized areas of current US or international legal practice.
· Exceptional analytical abilities to identify trends, evaluate annotation quality, and provide actionable feedback.
Soft Skills:
· Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex ideas and guidance with our internal teams and external vendors.
· A proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external partners to achieve shared goals.
· Flexibility and a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes in a rapidly evolving environment.
Experience:
· A minimum of 10+ years in the legal space
Responsibilities:
· Domain Expertise Advisory: Guide research teams to close knowledge gaps and improve AI model performance, focused on your specialty sub-domain area of practice
· Collaborate with other subject matter experts to ensure consistency and accuracy in our training data with respect to legal reasoning and content
· Guideline Development: Create, edit, and maintain high-quality annotation guidelines tailored to your sub-domain area of practice. Ensure that these guidelines are up-to-date, clear, and concise to enable vendors to deliver accurate annotations. As a domain SME, you'll set the gold standard for data quality and rigor.
· Quality Assurance: Evaluate and grade the quality of annotations produced by vendors. You will identify areas of improvement and provide feedback to optimize the quality of annotations.
· Data Annotation: Directly annotate data for key tasks across the model development life cycle.
Required Availability:
· Minimum availability of ~20 hours/week, preferred 40 hours/week. You'll join calibration calls with the team 2-5x per week.
