Required Education
· Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Packaging Science with 0–3 years of experience OR
· Minimum 1 year of experience as a lab technician or in a packaging area within a manufacturing environment
Required Qualifications/Skills/Experience
· Must have packaging experience
· Minimum 1 year of experience as a lab technician or in a packaging area within a manufacturing environment, or a bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Packaging Science with 0–3 years of experience
· Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
· Ability to work in a custom software testing program
· Strong documentation and reporting skills
· Ability to work independently and as part of small teams
· Self-starter who seeks out new work and responsibilities
· Ability to manage time and multiple activities
· Willingness and ability to perform manual work, including lifting cases up to 35 lbs, with most cases under 20 lbs
· Ability to perform active, hands-on work, including setup and repair of small equipment and filling, capping, and labeling bottles

Package Testing and Support Technician Overview
· Supports Packaging Engineers and coordinates materials, testing, test reports, and administrative activities related to new product launches and product/package qualifications
· Works in a laboratory containing specialized test equipment, including compression and vibration testers, pump force testers, vacuum chambers, wall thickness measurement equipment, bottle fillers, and heat sealers for films, pouches, and tubes
· Learns to operate testing equipment through provided training and written procedures and performs testing while documenting data and results in typed reports
· Coordinates and runs e-commerce shipping tests using ISTA standardized testing procedures
· Approximately 15% of the role involves e-commerce shipping testing and other physical work, including lifting cases up to 35 lbs
· Supports Package Engineers by leading or managing the collection, setup, testing, and disposal of package materials
· Completes package compatibility testing by filling formulas into bottles or other packages, placing them in designated storerooms, and periodically pulling samples for evaluation and data recording
· Supports qualification testing for new packaging components such as bottles, closures, and pumps
· Concise documentation and reporting are critical to the role
· Position is supported and directed by a Sr Lab Technician and staff Packaging Engineer
Job Duties
· Participate in and lead testing of package components and materials
· Work with suppliers, Package Engineers, Package Testing Engineers, and cross-functional team members to support driving projects to completion
· Assist in the design and development of project-related packaging components
· Create and maintain package testing plans
· Assist engineers with sustainability metrics development and product benchmarking studies, typically by gathering data on packaging currently in the market or identifying new packaging examples
· Perform package compatibility testing, including filling formulas into bottles or other packages, placing samples into specified storerooms, and pulling samples for evaluation and data recording
· Support testing for qualification of new packaging components, including bottles, closures, and pumps
· Coordinate and run e-commerce shipping tests using ISTA standardized testing
· Collect, set up, test, and dispose of package materials
· Operate package testing equipment according to training and written procedures
· Prepare typed test reports documenting data and results
· Perform hands-on activities such as filling, capping, and labeling bottles
· Perform setup and repair of small equipment as needed
· Manage multiple testing activities and responsibilities while maintaining concise documentation
Products worked on include:
· Laundry products
· Body and personal care products, including soap and body wash
· Hair care and hair coloring products
