Job Description
Required Education:
• High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Education:
• A.S. degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related physical sciences
Preferred License/Certification:
• EPA Hazardous Waste Certification
• DOT Hazardous Materials Certification
• OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour Certification
• ISO Certifications (14001, 45001, 50001)
Required Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
• Familiarity with NYS DEC, OSHA, and EPA regulatory requirements
• Experience in incident investigation, risk assessment, and corrective action planning
• Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and drive them to completion independently
• Ability to collaborate across functions and with external stakeholders
• Capability to promote a strong safety culture and accountability at all organizational levels

Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Specialist Overview:
• This role is responsible for supporting and maintaining workplace safety, health, and environmental compliance within an industrial setting
• The position involves ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal safety standards while promoting a proactive safety culture across all levels of the organization
• The SHE Specialist will conduct training, perform inspections, and support incident investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions
• This role requires strong collaboration with cross-functional teams, contractors, and external stakeholders to maintain safe operations and continuous improvement
• The position is fully on-site and requires hands-on involvement in daily plant activities, hazard identification, and emergency response preparedness
Job Duties:
• Ensure compliance with SHE training requirements and deliver training sessions as needed
• Actively support the site Emergency Response Team
• Enforce adherence to safety programs including Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, Industrial Hygiene, Working at Heights, and Emergency Response
• Promote Behavior-Based Safety and monitor participation
• Report key SHE metrics and conduct recurring compliance inspections
• Perform daily inspections and assess hazards for new or modified operations
• Investigate incidents, support root cause analysis, and develop corrective and preventive actions
• Issue safe work permits and train and monitor contractors
• Support waste management documentation processes
• Collaborate with teams to maintain safety and housekeeping standards.
