Employee Benefits Specialist Job Summary:

The Benefits Specialist reports to the Administrator of Operations Management within the Employee Benefits Unit and plays a key role in the administration, coordination, and ongoing management of comprehensive employee benefits programs. These programs include medical, dental, and vision insurance; group life insurance; prepaid legal services; short-term disability; cancer care; dependent care; flexible spending plans; deferred compensation; COBRA; and other related offerings.

This position requires in-depth knowledge of employee benefits and a strong understanding of applicable federal tax laws and state regulations. The Benefits Specialist ensures compliance across all programs while supporting the design, evaluation, and enhancement of benefit offerings to maximize value and coverage for employees and retirees.



Employee Benefits Specialist Job Responsibilities:

• Administering and maintaining all aspects of the state’s employee benefits programs and systems

• Researching industry trends, conducting surveys, and recommending new or improved benefit programs

• Serving as a primary point of contact for insurers, vendors, agency HR representatives, employees, and retirees to resolve service issues and provide technical support

• Preparing and distributing official communications such as correspondence, rate charts, forms, and benefits schedules (including COBRA, deferred compensation, life, and health plans for active employees and retirees)

• Ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness in all benefits-related documentation and processes
