Job Description
Required Education:
• Associate of Science (AS) degree in Surveying, GIS, Civil Technology, or a related field; Coursework must include advanced mathematics, particularly trigonometry and algebra

Preferred Education:
• Additional education or coursework in surveying, GIS, civil technology, cartography, photogrammetry, computer graphics, or a closely related field

Required Skills, Experience, Qualifications and Abilities:
• Experience demonstrating competency in cadastral mapping, photogrammetry, cartography, computer graphics, or a closely related field
• Experience preparing, compiling, checking, and revising legal descriptions and cadastral maps
• Knowledge of property descriptions and deed interpretation
• Knowledge of boundary surveying and boundary law
• Knowledge of public land survey principles
• Knowledge of state plane coordinate systems and mapping coordinate systems
• Knowledge of map projections and cartography
• Ability to perform mathematical computations using trigonometric and algebraic principles
• Ability to review and check complex mathematical computations performed by others
• Ability to identify insufficient, incomplete, inconsistent, or conflicting information and take appropriate steps to resolve issues
• Ability to research maps, legal descriptions, contracts, computation sheets, survey notes, and other source materials
• Ability to review maps and descriptions for completeness and accuracy and identify discrepancies
• Ability to recommend and implement changes to established methods and procedures to achieve desired results
• Ability to work independently under general supervision and meet established schedules
• Ability to exercise judgment when working on unique property acquisition or conveyance transactions
• Ability to use computer workstations and specialized mapping/computer graphics software
• Production experience with Intergraph MicroStation, ESRI Arc/Info, Terramodel, or similar computer-aided mapping software

Preferred Skills, Experience, Qualifications and Abilities:
• Experience with Client-related property acquisition, sale, or conveyance activities
• Experience with legal descriptions and cadastral mapping for real property rights
• Experience using MicroStation, Arc/Info, Terramodel, or comparable GIS/CAD/mapping platforms
• Experience reviewing and correcting cadastral maps and legal descriptions prepared by others
• Experience assisting project leaders with project scheduling and selection of technical procedures
• Experience handling complex or unusual surveying, mapping, or property-related assignments

Serves as a technician performing cadastral mapping work required for the preparation of legal descriptions and maps associated with real property rights to be acquired, sold, or transferred by Client.
Prepares, compiles, checks, and revises legal descriptions and cadastral maps using computer graphics workstations, specialized software, and/or manual methods.
Applies independent judgment because property acquisition and conveyance transactions are unique and may have limited procedural guidelines beyond established drawing specifications.
Determines whether available information is sufficient, complete, consistent, and accurate for preparing the required description or map.
Works under general supervision of the Team Leader, with guidance from the Team Leader, Project Engineer, and/or project leader.
Maintains independence in completing assignments and meeting schedules, with technical guidance provided for unusual or complex work.
Completed work is reviewed based on the desired results and project requirements.

Job Duties:
• Prepare, compile, check, and revise legal descriptions and cadastral maps
• Perform cadastral mapping related to real property acquisitions, sales, and transfers
• Review source information to determine whether it is complete, sufficient, consistent, and accurate
• Identify insufficient or conflicting information and initiate actions to resolve discrepancies
• Research maps, legal descriptions, contracts, computation sheets, survey notes, and other relevant materials
• Review maps and property descriptions prepared by others for completeness and accuracy
• Identify discrepancies and communicate deficiencies to the appropriate source or individual
• Recommend and make additions, revisions, and corrections necessary to rectify deficiencies
• Perform mathematical computations using trigonometric and algebraic principles
• Check complex mathematical computations prepared by others
• Use computer graphics workstations and specialized mapping software to complete assignments.
• Apply cadastral mapping, surveying, cartographic, coordinate system, map projection, and deed interpretation principles
• Recommend and implement modifications to standard methods and procedures when necessary to achieve project objectives
• Assist the project leader in estimating project schedules
• Assist in selecting appropriate technical procedures for completing projects
• Work independently within established guidelines while seeking technical guidance for unusual or complex assignments
