Job Description
Required Education & Experience
• Degree: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (or related field).
Years of Experience:
o 5 years if the candidate has a Bachelor's degree
o 3 years if the candidate has a Master's degree
• Internship Policy: Internships do not count as qualifying experience
Required Skills:
o Experience working in NPI (New Product Introduction) projects
o Knowledge of component obsolescence and sustainment
o Strong communication skills.
Preferred Skills:
o Electronic systems knowledge
o Experience with CAT electronic control modules, telematics solutions, and display hardware
o Experience using CAT proprietary tools
o Exposure to obsolescence management, component sustainment, or supply continuity
o Familiarity with validation testing and lab coordination
Job Responsibilities
• Execute assigned legacy sustainment and obsolescence mitigation tasks/projects in alignment with approved plans
• Own technical deliverables for assigned components or design families (analysis, documentation, reviews)
• Support project schedules by completing tasks on time and escalating risks or blockers early
• Identify and assess risks related to component end-of-life, supplier discontinuations, and long lead-time parts
• Support mitigation activities (Last time buys, alternate part identification, redesign efforts)
• Maintain and update component sustainment plans and lifecycle status using CAT proprietary tools
• Execute tasks under established design control processes (documentation updates, technical reviews)
• Support design control transfers, supplier changes, and engineering ownership transitions
• Prepare engineering evidence to support design decisions, deviations, or change approvals
• Support component and system validation activities (EMC, vibration, environmental, functional testing)
• Coordinate with internal and external labs to execute test plans and collect results
• Analyze test data to support sustainment or replacement decisions
• Work with suppliers to resolve technical issues and phase-out notifications
• Collaborate with system teams, quality, supply chain, and manufacturing partners
• Support regulatory and compliance activities (e.g., RoHS, CE)
