Field Service Engineer – Server Hardware Replacement Overview:
The Field Service Engineer supports Nutanix hardware replacement services by visiting customer locations to replace failed server components. Issues are diagnosed before dispatch, and replacement parts are delivered to the site in advance. The engineer performs component swaps under the direction of a remote Nutanix Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), documents service activities, and ensures all work is completed in accordance with established service-level agreements (SLAs) and customer site requirements. Direct customer communication is managed through the Hemmersbach Global Service Desk (GSD).
Job Duties:
• Travel to customer sites to perform scheduled server hardware replacement services.
• Review service tickets, site addresses, access requirements, and hardware replacement instructions before dispatch.
• Bring required tools and equipment, including an ESD strap, screwdriver, mobile device, and identification.
• Check in with the site contact upon arrival and identify yourself as working on behalf of Nutanix.
• Collect the replacement part and contact the Hemmersbach GSD to establish a connection with the remote SRE.
• Verify device serial numbers and product IDs before beginning work.
• Replace failed server components under the step-by-step guidance of the remote SRE.
• Follow established hardware handling, safety, and ESD procedures.
• Use the Hemmersbach FMA application to record travel, arrival, parts receipt, service progress, and ticket closure in real time.
• Notify the GSD promptly of access issues, missing parts, delays, or any inability to meet the assigned SLA.
• Wait for the SRE's approval and release before leaving the site.
• Document service start and end times, access status, work performed, final outcome, and any parts left on site.
• Report unsuccessful replacements or unresolved issues to the GSD for follow-up work orders.
• Return defective HDDs and SSDs within two business days and other defective parts within five business days, recording tracking information in FMA.
• Coordinate with a second field engineer when two-person support is required for heavy chassis replacements.
• Maintain compliance with scheduling, arrival, communication, documentation, and service-level requirements. - **Only those lawfully authorized to work in the designated country associated with the position will be considered.**
