Job Description
Required Education & Experience
• Industry Knowledge: Prior workers' compensation claim handling (preferred), familiarity with disability, auto PIP, medical billing, or general liability (preferred).
• Medical Knowledge: Knowledge of medical terminology or bill processing (preferred).
• Background: Prior insurance, legal, or corporate business experience (preferred).
• High School Diploma
• Experience: 3+ years as a Workers' Compensation Claim Examiner OR commensurate experience in a transferable role (e.g., paralegal, short-term/long-term disability, auto PIP, general liability, medical billing, or claim technical assistant for lost-time
claims).
Required Certification
• Adjuster Licenses: Must possess (or be willing to obtain immediately) applicable resident or designated home state adjuster licenses for Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Preferred Certification
• Certifications: AIC, RMA, or CPCU coursework/designations (preferred, not required).

Job Description
• Handles all aspects of workers' compensation claims from set-up to case closure, maintaining strong customer relations.
• Reviews claim and policy information to provide background for investigation.
• Conducts ongoing 3-part investigations (insured, claimant, medical providers), obtaining facts and statements.
• Evaluates gathered facts to determine claim compensability.
• Informs insureds, claimants, and attorneys of claim denials when applicable.
• Prepares reports on investigations, settlements, denials, and evaluations of involved parties.
• Administers statutory medical and/or indemnity benefits throughout the claim lifecycle.
• Sets reserves within authority limits and recommends reserve changes to the Team Leader.
• Reviews claim status at regular intervals and recommends remedial actions to the Team Leader.
• Submits unusual or potentially undesirable exposures to the Team Leader.
• Works with attorneys to manage hearings and litigation.
• Controls and directs vendors, nurse case managers, and rehabilitation managers on medical management and return-to-work initiatives.
• Complies with customer service requests, including special handling procedures and file reviews.
• Files workers' compensation forms and electronic data with states to ensure statutory compliance.
• Refers appropriate claims to subrogation and secures information to maximize recovery.
• Collaborates with in-house Technical Assistants, Investigators, Nurse Consultants, and Team Supervisors.
