This position offers an opportunity to contribute to meaningful plant science research by supporting controlled environment studies focused on major row crops.
The role involves hands-on work with canola, corn, cotton, and soybeans in both greenhouse and growth chamber facilities, where you will help investigate how different environmental and physical conditions affect plant development and performance. Working within established protocols while applying practical problem-solving skills, you will play a vital role in ensuring the success of ongoing research projects. This position requires physical stamina, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work independently under general supervision while maintaining the highest standards of plant care and data integrity.
Required Education:
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, biology, horticulture, or other life sciences.
Required Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
• Basic understanding of plant biology and growth requirements
• Previous experience working in controlled environment settings with plants preferred
• Commercial greenhouse experience highly desirable
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise protocols
• Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform manual labor
• Ability to work in elevated temperatures during warmer months
• Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities
• Effective communication skills for reporting to supervisors
• Adaptability to handle varied daily responsibilities
• Problem-solving abilities within established guidelines
Responsibilities:
• Sow seeds and establish plant populations according to experimental protocols
• Provide daily plant care including watering, fertilizing, and monitoring plant health
• Transplant seedlings and mature plants as needed for experimental requirements
• Harvest plant materials and samples following specified procedures and timelines
• Process and prepare seeds for storage or subsequent planting
• Discard plant materials and maintain cleanliness of greenhouse and growth chamber spaces
• Monitor and respond to environmental conditions within controlled growing environments
• Maintain accurate records of plant care activities and observations
• Participate in rotational weekend work schedules to ensure continuous plant care
