Job Description
Summary:
L-H Battery Company, Inc is seeking a motivated and pragmatic attorney with 3+ years of experience to join our Legal Department as Counsel. This position will primarily support the Company’s Purchasing and Supply Chain functions through review, drafting, and negotiation of commercial agreements of moderate complexity, while also serving as a generalist legal advisor across the organization.
This role offers broad exposure to operational, regulatory, and strategic matters within a growing manufacturing company and is ideal for an attorney seeking significant responsibility and direct client engagement.
Responsibilities:
While serving as the primary legal point of contact for the Purchasing and Supply Chain (PSC) team members, this role also functions as a versatile legal advisor to the wider organization. You will split your focus between PSC strategic support and providing broad-based legal guidance across a diverse range of corporate matters, adapting to the shifting priorities of a growing business. The Counsel will work closely with and receive guidance from the managing attorney while developing increased autonomy over time.
Commercial Contracting & Purchasing Support
- Serve as day-to-day legal support for the Purchasing and Supply Chain functions.
- Review, draft, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, master service agreements, supply agreements, NDAs, and logistics agreements of moderate complexity.
- Assist business stakeholders in understanding contract terms and practical risk implications.
- Support the development and refinement of contract templates and negotiation playbooks.
- Provide clear, practical, business-oriented legal advice in a fast-paced operational environment.
Broader Legal Support
- Provide general legal support across operational matters, including employment-related issues, EHS matters, immigration, workers’ compensation coordination, logistics, utilities, and real estate matters of moderate complexity.
- Assist with corporate governance matters, including board materials and corporate formalities.
- Support product liability risk management and other legal considerations as products enter the market.
- Collaborate with outside counsel where more complex or specialized expertise is required.
Litigation & Outside Counsel Coordination
- Assist in managing disputes and pre-litigation matters.
- Coordinate with outside counsel on litigation and regulatory matters under the supervision of the managing attorney.
- Support internal stakeholders with document preservation and information gathering when needed.
Training & Policy Support
- Participate in the development and delivery of legal training to business teams.
- Assist in updating and implementing company policies and compliance initiatives.
- Help identify opportunities to improve legal processes and risk mitigation practices.
Education/Experience:
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- 3+ years of experience as a practicing attorney (law firm or in-house).
- Must be admitted to the practice of law in Ohio and in good standing with the Supreme Court of Ohio, or be eligible for immediate admission without examination (on motion) or via UBE score transfer.
- Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Exposure to manufacturing, supply chain, or industrial environments.
- Familiarity with labor & employment, regulatory compliance, or operational legal issues.
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.
- Practical, risk-balanced business judgment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High degree of ownership, accountability, and discretion.
