Required Education

• BS in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or equivalent hands-on expertise in coatings and adhesive technology



Required Qualifications/Skills/Experience

• Mechanical and application equipment aptitude

• Experience troubleshooting complex and difficult problems

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent project management and organizational skills

• Ability to communicate with internal teams and customers

• Ability to move materials as necessary in the performance of duties

• Experience with web handling

• Experience with coat weight variables

• Experience with tension control

• Experience with coating methods

• Experience with web drying processes

• 1-3 years of laboratory experience

• Experience in the packaging industry



Associate Application Engineer Overview

• Supports one or more packaging segments with primary focus on specialty tapes and labels

• Assists with operation and demonstration of pilot coater and laminator equipment

• Supports calibration and preventive maintenance activities for laboratory and pilot equipment

• Performs laboratory testing, analyzes results, and prepares reports for internal and external customers

• Supports the evaluation of product technology capabilities and development of testing procedures

• Participates in product optimization activities and investigations aimed at improving product quality

• Collaborates with sales teams, account managers, application engineers, and project teams

• Supports customer visits, demonstrations, and training activities

• Contributes to safety initiatives and maintains organized work practices in accordance with 5S principles



Job Duties

• Run customer laboratory demonstrations using application equipment and pilot coater and laminator systems

• Support on-site customer visits

• Ensure efficient setup and production of material on assigned pilot equipment

• Perform calibration and safety checks on laboratory, pilot, and application equipment in compliance with local regulations

• Standardize existing test methods and develop new testing methods

• Coordinate pilot equipment changeovers

• Perform minor maintenance and maintain pilot equipment

• Complete customer laboratory work requests

• Prepare technical reports and maintain reporting within the technical database

• Conduct laboratory work supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions related to product complaints

• Prepare internal reports and presentations for work groups and departments

• Participate in customer report-outs

• Support training activities for internal and external personnel

• Assist with customer tours

• Communicate directly with field sales personnel, key account managers, application engineers, project teams, and customers

• Lead ongoing harmonization and administration of laboratory test methods

• Promote safety and 5S practices and complete all site requirements

• Move materials as necessary in the performance of duties



Specific Details to Call Attention To

• Position is 100% on-site

• Experience with coating processes, web handling, coat weight variables, tension control, coating methods, and web drying is strongly preferred

• Packaging industry experience is strongly preferred

• Candidates should have strong troubleshooting, communication, project management, and organizational skills

• Minimal travel is required
