Required Education:
- Dental Hygiene certificate/degree from an accredited dental hygiene college

Preferred Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene; Advanced degree (MPH, MPA, MPM, M.Ed.)

Required Experience:
- Demonstrated experience reviewing periodontal conditions and treatment plans for medical necessity
- Proficiency interpreting clinical documentation, dental records, and diagnostic imaging to support authorization decisions
- Experience applying established clinical criteria and policy guidelines consistently across a high volume of case reviews
- Strong working knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, and standards of care
- Proven ability to work independently with limited supervision while managing competing deadlines and productivity expectations

Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience in a utilization review, prior authorization, or claims review setting
- Experience working within a state or federal healthcare agency or managed care organization
- Familiarity with SoonerCare or other state Medicaid program policies and billing practices
- Experience collaborating with clinical directors, consultants, or multidisciplinary review teams
- Background in data tracking, spreadsheet maintenance, or reporting related to clinical case review

Job Summary:
Under supervision, responsible for researching, reviewing, and analyzing dental provider prior authorization requests per federal mandates to ensure compliance with SoonerCare policy, procedures, and billing practices, and to identify potential over- or under-utilization and/or fraud. This position does not supervise.

Job Duties:
- Determines compensability for dental services requested for SoonerCare-eligible members by interpreting doctors' statements, dental and medical records, and agency forms to ensure eligibility standards are met
- Works with agency Dental Director and consultants in evaluating members' medical conditions to determine medical appropriateness of services requested according to state and federal guidelines
- Reviews and makes approval decisions on periodontal prior authorization requests for dental services based on medical necessity; pends to dentist consultant when not meeting qualifications for approval
- Adheres to all OHCA rules and policies while providing services
- Consults with agency's Dental Director and consultants as necessary on issues requiring technical or clinical assistance
- Performs Dental, OHCA, and multi-agency special projects as required
- Creates and maintains spreadsheets pertaining to Dental Unit; identifies system issues and collaborates with appropriate OHCA staff when necessary
- Represents OHCA and assists the Dental Director and Dental Manager with Dental Focus Group meetings or other external meetings the Dental Unit may host, including preparing and archiving meeting minutes
- Maintains current valid Dental Hygienist license in Oklahoma
- Other duties as assigned
