Required Education:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
• Working knowledge of business English
• Familiarity with standard office practices, procedures, and filing systems
• Ability to perform basic tabulation and arithmetic calculations
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the public and internal staff
• Ability to maintain accurate records and handle sensitive information with discretion
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
• Experience working in a public-facing, customer service, or administrative support role
• Experience in a government, healthcare, veterans’ services, or cemetery environment
• Familiarity with eligibility determinations, benefits processing, or application review processes
• Proficiency with common office software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic data systems
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to interact compassionately with veterans, family members, and the public
• Experience supporting outreach activities, reporting, or community events
Administrative Assistant Job Responsibilities:
• Responds to telephone, written, electronic, and in-person inquiries by providing information and assistance to the public, veterans, family members, representatives, and outside agencies; follows up as necessary
• Performs eligibility determinations for individuals applying for or receiving cemetery-related benefits and services
• Maintains knowledge of services, programs, and resources available through the cemetery; assists in the development and upkeep of reference and resource materials
• Coordinates services and communicates with cemetery field staff to ensure appropriate support and follow-through for applicants and families
• Serves as a liaison and advocate with service provider agencies; assists individuals with the completion of applications and required documentation
• Conducts interviews in an office, on-site, or field setting, as required
• Assists with the distribution of printed materials and informational resources
• Supports the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual statistical and informational reports
• Receives, investigates, and documents complaints and concerns in accordance with established procedures
• Participates in assigned outreach activities statewide, including information fairs, public meetings, identification card processing, and eligibility screenings
