Job Description
Required Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
Preferred Certification:
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or similar professional certification preferred.
Requirements:
• Proven experience as a Senior Accountant, Financial Controller, Accounting Supervisor, or similar accounting leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Experience managing general ledger functions and month-end/year-end close processes.
• Ability to analyze financial data and communicate findings effectively.
• Experience preparing financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
• Experience supporting internal and external audit functions.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with accounting software platforms such as QuickBooks, FreshBooks, or similar ERP/accounting systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, and financial modeling.
• Experience with process improvement initiatives and accounting system implementations.
• Knowledge of tax compliance, audit preparation, and regulatory requirements.
• Background working in a complex corporate, media, publishing, or multi-entity accounting environment.
• Demonstrated ability to improve accounting processes and strengthen internal controls.
Summary:
• The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing key accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and month-end/year-end close activities.
• This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records, supports audits and tax compliance activities, and provides financial analysis and accounting expertise to improve operational effectiveness and maintain compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Responsibilities:
• Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations and maintain accurate account balances.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger activities.
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare accurate financial statements and management reports according to established schedules.
• Analyze financial data and provide insights into financial performance, trends, and variances.
• Identify accounting discrepancies, investigate issues, and recommend corrective actions.
• Produce accurate, error-free accounting reports and present findings to management.
• Provide technical accounting guidance and support to management and business stakeholders.
• Review and recommend improvements to accounting systems, processes, and procedures.
• Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
• Assist with tax audits, tax return preparation, and related compliance requirements.
• Coordinate and support internal and external audits to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal control processes.
• Monitor compliance with GAAP and other applicable accounting regulations.
